Colorado Telehealth Network

The Colorado Telehealth Network is a state wide network for the integration of healthcare data providing accurate and time sensitive medical data to the Health Care Providers of Colorado. The Colorado Telehealth Network was created with awards from the Federal Communications Commission. Two awards were given to Colorado in December 2007 totaling $9.8M and requiring a 15% matching fund from the participating Health Care Providers.

Funding Commitment Letter (FCL) issued to CTN (March 2010):

CTN Receives Nearly $10 Million in Federal Funds
The Colorado Hospital Association was notified this week that the Colorado Telehealth Network (CTN) received a funding commitment letter (FCL) from the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Rural Health Care Pilot Program totaling close to $10 million. The FCC project award is effective immediately and covers up to 85% of both recurring and non-recurring support for the deployment for managed network services for the CTN broadband telehealth network across Colorado.

For the past two years, with the support of many critically important stakeholders, CHA and the Colorado Behavioral Health Council (CBHC) have been committed to successfully advancing the implementation of CTN which was formed through the consolidation of FCC award funds received by the CHA Colorado Health Care Connections project and the CBHC Rocky Mountain Health Net project. Colorado leads the nation in its efforts to increase patient access and quality of care by establishing a high-speed broadband highway to support the transfer of electronic health records (EHRs) and telemedicine. CTN currently has 200 rural and urban members and will connect approximately 370 sites, including major hospitals, clinics and mental health facilities throughout Colorado.

Qwest Communications was selected to provide the high-speed broadband managed services; circuit testing is expected to be completed by the end of March for the first deployment of connectivity in the rural communities of Leadville, Buena Vista, Del Norte and Lamar. An aggressive schedule is planned to complete the initial build-out of the CTN by the end of 2010.

Advisory Councils:
Two Advisory Councils are currently convened to advance the potential of the Colorado Telehealth Network. These Councils are comprised of IT experts and Medical experts from both Rural and Metro areas of Colorado. You can find the minutes of their meetings contained in this web page by clicking on the left hand menu side bar on the appropriate name.
A 3rd Advisory Council examines Business Applications in which aggregated resources may reduce the costs of administrative functions in our health system.
